The online pervasiveness of bitter, twisted, weird and creepy commenters is something to behold. It's slowly or well and truly taking a hold of just about everywhere I post from Steam Forums to niche websites. And I don't quite know what to do about it other than applying band-aid solutions. Like replying with comments to make them self reflective or just straight up burning them but all of this takes a mental toll. I am growing to be unwilling to spend the mental fortitude to deal with these people. So what's the answer to a healthy online communities? I believe it's democratic societies: good education, access to healthcare, taxing the wealthy, just legal systems etc. I do worry though that the need to address these things will be outstripped by the spiraling degradation of humanity. And even once we work to fix these good and just things I'm worried it will be up against inter-generational trauma, stupidity, corruption and environmental catastrophe all caused by less than lackluster governments.
Well this got, wild... :D
